Why would I need a pin and weld?
If your rifle barrel is shorter than 16", installing it on a rifle creates a short barrel rifle (SBR) under NFA rules. Permanently pinning and welding a muzzle device extends the legally measured barrel length, so a 14.5" barrel + a properly pinned 1.5"+ device becomes a legal 16" rifle barrel.
Is a pin and weld really permanent?
Yes — that's the entire point. The ATF requires the attachment to be permanent, which is why blind pinning with the pin head welded over is one of the approved methods. Removal requires destructive machining (see our un-pin and re-weld service).
