Samson Manufacturing Corp – Evolution Series 12.37” KeyMod Free Floating Rail – 888-665-4370

If you have been an avid follower of TFM you should remember the two customized AR15’s that had multiple parts and reviews. One of the rails on those firearms was a Samson Evolution Rail similar to the one pictured here. The only difference is this rail is a KeyMod rail versus a standard one. What’s the difference? Well instead of there being standard holes where you can mount your rail pieces, a KeyMod rail has an open-source design that allows you to utilize KeyMod accessories/components with ease. It’s basically a different option for those who don’t need to have a lot of accessories on their weapons.

KeyMod accessories are made to be easier to install and remove so there are no extra pieces or screws that can easily be lost. That’s not to say you cannot use a standard rail section and install it on a KeyMod rail but they make rail sections specifically for these types of rails. A lot of times the saying is true, less is more.

Unfortunately for me, this rail had to be installed on a piston AR15 which has a larger gas block than a standard gas system rifle. Basically the rail would not fit over the gas block so I had to modify it to fit. But, if you’re reading this, you’re probably into modifying so this is nothing new to you. I cut out a portion on the top of the rail to allow the larger gas block to fit without problems and it looks like it came that way from the factory. Samson does make the new KeyMod rail to fit the piston system rifles but they are only offered to OEM manufacturers at the moment.

It’s made from 6010 T6 Aluminum, comes standard with a Mil-Spec hard coat anodized finish (we Cerakote’d ours Graphite Black), it uses the factory barrel nut for installation, comes with a 303 stainless thermal bushing that reduces heat transfer, it has KeyMod slots at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions, it fits most suppressors with an inner diameter of 1.56”, and it has an outer diameter of 1.8” which fits great in my hands. It requires no special tools for installation but you may need some to remove your factory parts.

For those who didn’t get to see the awesome rail in the last Samson review, gawk over this new one and hurry up and customize your firearm!

SLIDE FIRE – SSAR-15:SBS – Stock – 325-945-3800

One of the most common questions I hear when I talk about firearms is, “Can you make it full auto?” A lot of people don’t understand what it takes to own a legal fully automatic firearm. A transferable/sell-able firearm can cost anywhere between 10 to 30k and upwards depending on the firearm. There are ways you can own one but not only will it cost you, they are federally regulated and must be registered.

So, what’s the next best thing to having a fully automatic firearm? Most of you already know about it, heard about it, or even have it, but for those who don’t….Slide Fire makes replacement parts to make your rifle shoot similar to a fully automatic one, similar to the controlled “bump fire” method.

The one we have here is made for the AR-15 platform and is offered in a left or right handed model. It is designed to resemble current rifle stocks and comes with multiple accessory options. Installation is a breeze and it’s not permanent so you can go back to your old setup with ease. It replaces your stock and grip with a high strength polymer setup.

Once installed, it allows you to shoot as quickly as desired in a safe and legal manner. The stock is basically free-floating over your buffer tube assembly. When you hold your trigger finger over the trigger plate that is parallel to the trigger itself and pull the rifle away from you (normally by holding the handguard/rail), the recoil of the rifle pushes into the stock. That recoil in conjunction with you pulling on the rifle automatically puts the trigger in a position that your trigger finger automatically hits it again.

Your rate of fire all depends on you pulling the rifle away. It’s a little awkward at first but it’s a great addition to any setup when you get used to it and you’ll feel bad ass with an almost fully automatic weapon. There is a locking mechanism which will allow you to shoot it like a standard AR or after a little practice, you can control the rate of fire simply by pulling/controlling the rifle as you are firing it.

Not only does Slide Fire make this for the AR platform, they also make it for AK’s, M&P 15/22’s, 308’s, 10-22’s, and Saiga’s. That’s right…you can put this bad boy on your Saiga 12 shotgun and have loads of fun as if it were fully automatic. Happen to have an SBR (Short Barrel Rifle?) Put this on there and you’ll really see how much fun you can have while going through rounds like butter.
